The Surgery
Lochmaben Medical Group operates a telephone triage system of appointment allocation. All GP and Advanced Nurse Practitioner appointments are initially by telephone only. Follow-up face-to-face appointments may be offered at a mutually acceptable time depending on the degree of clinical urgency.
Practice Nurse and Healthcare Support Worker appointments can be booked directly through the administration team. There is no facility for online booking of appointments.
If you would like to request a telephone consultation, please speak to our administrative staff who will be happy to assist you. You will be asked some brief questions about the nature of your problem. This ensures that you are directed to the most appropriate clinician for your complaint, which includes (but not restricted to) GP, ANP, Community Pharmacist, Mental Health Practitioner, First Contact Musculoskeletal Practitioners. It is possible that you may be directed to a service outwith the practice, such as the Community Single Access point (for social care services), Community Opticians or a third sector agency. There are a number of routine telephone calls available each day, but if you wish to speak to a particular staff member, you may be asked to call back a subsequent day if their allocation has been reached.
Urgent medical matters are handled by the duty team which comprises ANPs, GP trainees and specialist nurses who are supervised by a senior GP. We are not able to offer callbacks from named clinicians on an urgent basis.
Please ensure that your mobile phone is charged and accessible if you are awaiting a callback from the practice. Due to data protection regulations we are unable to leave a voicemail. Missed calls and repeated callbacks negatively impacts our clinical time. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.
Extended hours appointments can be offered at the discretion of a GP partner, between the hours of 0800-0900 Monday-Friday.
Routine nursing clinics operate Mon-Thurs 09:00-17:00 and Friday 09:00-16:00. Phlebotomy clinics are available daily – these are principally in the morning so tests can be sent to the laboratory at the midday collection.
